Three injured in Highway 14 collision

Three people were injured, one seriously, in a two-vehicle head-on collision on Highway 14 east of Grandora on Wednesday, December 28.
Asquith Fire Department first responders, Warman RCMP and MD Ambulance paramedics were called to the scene of the collision at 11:10 a.m. According to a news release issued by MD Ambulance, two trucks collided. One person had to be extricated from a vehicle by Asquith Fire Department personnel using specialized equipment.
Troy Davies of MD Ambulance said a 40-year-old male and a 46-year-old male were transported to Royal University Hospital (RUH) with minor injuries.
A 20-year-old male was also taken to RUH. His injuries are considered serious.
Warman RCMP are investigating the cause of the crash.
Davies said highways in the Saskatoon region are “still a little slippery with today’s warmer weather,” and urged motorists to use caution.

Four people charged in copper wire thefts

Four people were arrested in connection with two separate incidents of theft of copper wire from a compound in the Colonsay area in the past month, according to Saskatoon RCMP.
A police statement issued September 28 noted that investigations conducted involving the theft of copper wire by Saskatoon RCMP and Provincial GIS members resulted in arrests and charges.
“On September 14, a compound in the Colonsay area was broken into and copper wire was stolen,” stated the RCMP. “A search warrant was executed at a residence located in Young, Saskatchewan where the stolen wire was located as well as offence related property. With the assistance of Watrous RCMP, two adult persons (one 43yr old male, one 39yr old female) were arrested and charged.”
The RCMP said 43-year-old Raymon Hounjet of Young is charged with one count of Break, Enter and Theft; one count of Possession of Stolen Property; and three counts of Failure to comply with Undertaking.
The RCMP also charged 39-year-old Shannon Rausch of Saskatoon with Break, Enter and Theft; and Possession of Stolen Property.
Hounjet appeared in Saskatoon Provincial Court on September 16. Rausch is scheduled to appear in Saskatoon Provincial court on November 19, 2016.
RCMP said the second incident of theft of copper wire from the same compound occurred on September 24.
A search warrant was executed at a residence in the Grandora district where the stolen wire was located as well as offence-related property.
With the assistance of Warman RCMP, two adult males were arrested and charged. The copper wire recovered in this incident was returned to the rightful owner.
RCMP say this investigation is still ongoing and there may be further charges as the investigation evolves and items recovered and believed to be stolen unrelated to this offence are identified.
RCMP charged 50-year-old Shawn Johnson of Grandora with one count of Break, Enter and Theft; two counts of Possession of Stolen Property and one count of Possession of Break-In Instruments.
Several charges were also laid against 49-year-old Dean Kocay of Saskatoon in connection with the September 24 theft, including: one count of Break, Enter and Theft; two counts of Possession of Stolen Property; and one count of Possession of Break-In Instruments.
Johnson and Kocay made their first appearance in Saskatoon Provincial Court on Monday, September 26.
