Martensville Fire Department members responded to a fire call on a farm in the RM of Corman Park about a mile west of Martensville on Township Road 384 at about 3:45 p.m. on Friday, July 28. Thick black smoke was visible for several miles around for a short time. When firefighters arrived, an old barn on the property was still smouldering and bales were burning. The house and other buildings on the farm were not damaged, and no injuries were reported. Martensville firefighters quickly had the small fire under control. A crew from the Dalmeny Fire and Rescue were among the first to arrive on the scene, but left once Martensville firefighters arrived. The Dalmeny firefighters were investigating the source of the smoke after having fought a grassfire at the intersection of Highway 16 and the Dalmeny Access Road. The grassfire had been reported at about 3:30 p.m. and was also quickly extinguished.
