Senior boys basketball teams battle it out at conference championships

The Valley Christian Academy (VCA) Lions, Stobart Rebels, Clavet Cougars, Delisle Rebels and Waldheim Raiders senior boys basketball teams all got a step closer to Hoopla, by finishing as the top teams at their respective SHSAA conference basketball championships on March 9 and 10.
The top two teams from each tournament advanced to the regional basketball championships, which will take place on March 16 and 17.
Other area teams participated in the conference championships.
VCA, Rosthern Junior College (RJC), Waldheim, Walter W. Brown (Langham) and Rosthern High competed in the 2A Conference 4, five team tournament in Osler.
RJC defeated Langham 79-45 in the first game of the tournament.
With that win, RJC was matched up against VCA in the semi-finals, where VCA won 90-45. Waldheim earned a 75-64 win over Rosthern High in its semi-finals match.
In the final, VCA took an early lead and led throughout the contest, defeating Waldheim 101-84.
Stobart Community School (Duck Lake) hosted the 2A Conference 7 tournament. Only three teams competed in the event.
Stobart defeated Macklin 65-48 in the first game of the tournament and in the final, Stobart earned a 57-30 victory over Maidstone.
Hanley hosted the 2A boys Conference 8 tournament and Aberdeen along with two other teams competed in the event.
Aberdeen and Hanley met up in the first game of the tournament, where Hanley earned a 68-61 victory.
Hanley advanced to the semi-finals and lost to Saskatoon Christian 118-41.
The Clavet Cougars competed in the 3A boys Conference 4, four team tournament in Moose Jaw. The Cougars won their first game 71-70, which was against Watrous.
Clavet then advanced to the final, defeating Assiniboia 102-63.
Dalmeny lost 75-62 in its opening game of the 3A boys Conference 7 tournament in Unity and was eliminated from the three team competition.
The Delisle Rebels competed in 3A boys Conference 8, five team tournament in Biggar. The Rebels won their first game 53-30 against Rosetown which advanced the team to the final. Delisle defeated Kindersley 59-51 in the final.
