Saskatchewan wins Canada Games baseball gold

Saskatchewan captured the gold medal in men’s baseball at the 2017 Canada Games in Winnipeg last week.
Ben Pelechaty, 17, of Martensville was one of the players who helped propel the squad to the 3-1 championship win over Manitoba on Friday, August 4.
The team roster also includes: Blake Pongracz (Saskatoon), Bryce Libke (Saskatoon), Brody Frerichs (Muenster), Jaydon Gartner (Lloydminster), Gregor Farquharson (Saltcoats), Logan Hoffman (Muenster), Tyler McWillie (Watrous), Ryan Olchoway (Saskatoon), Connor Sparks (Saskatoon), Logan Fritzke (Swift Current), Brandon Logan, Dylan Solie (Regina), Jayden Huls (Humboldt), Garrett Hawkins (Biggar), Rylan Marianchuk (Humboldt), Kendall Keller (Pilot Butte), Dylan Edmands (Regina), Erik Trakalo (Saskatoon), and Devon Farrell (Saskatoon).
Despite losing their opening game 7-2 to Quebec in the round robin, Saskatchewan rebounded with a 3-2 win over Alberta, another 3-2 win over BC and a 4-2 win over Quebec before losing the final two games of the round robin, 6-2 to Alberta and 2-1 to BC.
Saskatchewan spanked Ontario 7-0 in the semi-final to punch their ticket to the gold medal game against Manitoba, which they won 3-1.
