UPDATE: Firefighters on scene of major grass fire near Langham

Various fire departments are battling a major grass fire near Langham

3:00 p.m.  A firebreak has stopped the progress of the grass fire and it appears to be under control, assuming the wind doesn’t change direction.

2:15 p.m  Firefighters are battling a major grass fire south of Highway 16 and highway weigh scales near Langham. Fire departments from Dalmeny, Langham and Martensville responded to the call at about 1:30 p.m. on Friday, and are on the scene working to bring the blaze under control, with a half dozen units. The blaze started in a farmer’s field and is burning near a wooded area and farmyard. No structures are currently involved. Firefighters are also dealing with 30 km per hour winds and muddy fields. As of 2:35 p.m. firefighter command has relocated to the farmyard. There is heavy smoke and firefighters are using breathing apparatus. The fire is not currently spreading and firefighters are focusing on the core of the fire west and south of the yard.
